Who We Are

Raising awareness about the importance of emergency planning and readiness is vital; as the City of Ventura has faced the detrimental impact of volatile wildfires, floods, mudslides, and earthquakes.

In collaboration with the Ventura Police & Fire Departments, the Ventura County Fire Department, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the City of Ventura is excited to launch a local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to provide crucial disaster preparedness education and training to City residents.

In the aftermath of a disaster, the demand for professional responders can exceed availability. In an emergency, you are your best first responder!

This initiative equips community members with essential knowledge about potential local disasters and instructs participants on how to respond safely and responsibly.

What We Do

CERT educates volunteers in basic disaster response skills like as fire safety, team organization, hazards that may impact their area, and disaster medical operations.

CERT members receive hands-on training in:

  • Disaster preparedness and response skills
  • Reducing fire hazards in the home and workplace
  • Setting up medical treatment areas
  • Assisting emergency responders
  • Treatment and triage evaluation
  • Conducting light search and rescue
  • Organizing and managing a CERT Team

Completing the CERT program requires 24 hours of training and each graduate will receive a certificate of completion, a manual, and a CERT disaster start-up pack containing a helmet, gloves, vest, and safety goggles.
